The entry to employment programme is designed to offer young people an opportunity to enter pre-vocational training in a supportive environment. The learner will work on their basic skills, key skills, personal development and vocational competence. They will have a package tailored towards their individual needs.
The programme is aimed at 16 to 18 year olds who wish to embark on NVQ/QCF training.
NVQ/QCF occupational areas comprise of:
- Customer service - level 2 and 3
- Retail operations - level 2
- Team leading - level 2
The programme aims to:
- promote personal development;
- equip the young person with life skills and improve their basic skills;
- provide vocational training; and
- facilitate progression into employment or further education.
The learner will participate in an induction and an initial assessment which will last between 2 and 8 weeks. During this period the learner will complete an initial assessment and a diagnostic assessment, create an individual learning plan in conjunction with their key worker and will be inducted in equal opportunities and health and safety matters. The anticipated duration of the programme is 22 weeks.
Elements of learning
The emphasis of the programme will be flexible training in a supportive environment. The learners will work on a combination of off-the-job training and work placements.
The in-centre training will consist of:
- Literacy and Numeracy sessions
- Vocational training
- Personal development sessions
Guidance and support
The learner will receive guidance and support from the assessors, off-the-job tutors and support staff. The learner will be assigned a key worker who will provide additional support, guidance and encouragement. The key worker will be available to discuss any issues with the student and will attend progress review meetings.
