NVQs are a set of work-based qualifications that recognise an individual’s ability to carry out a particular job role to the national standards.
There are five qualification levels ranging from Level 1, which covers basic work activities, up to Level 5 for senior management. NVQ Levels 2 and 3 are broadly equivalent to 5 GCSE passes (at grades A*-C) and 2 A Levels respectively.
NVQs were set up to meet employers’ growing needs for a consistent and reliable workforce, and to raise skill levels in commerce and industry within the UK.
NVQs are:
- based on the employee’s competence;
- relevant to their employment;
- separate from their studies;
- assessed to national standards; and
- free from discrimination.
Through our Train to Gain programme learners can gain a national vocational qualification (NVQ). Training advisors will work with you and your employer to select a suitable and flexible training package to meet your individual and your employer's business needs.
